UPDATE: As of 2:04 p.m. Sunday a spokesperson for the Lasalle Parish Correctional Center in Olla, La. confirmed that Seth Fontenot has been released from jail.
ORIGINAL: A man who fatally shot a teenager in 2013 who was sentenced to 13 months in prison is due to be released Sunday after serving 10 months. Seth Fontenot, 22, will be released from prison Sunday after serving 10 months for the shooting death of 15-year-old Austin Rivault.
His sentence drew criticism from Rivault’s parents.
Fontenot told police he fired a gun at a truck occupied by three teens because he suspected they had tried to break into his truck. He was convicted of manslaughter in the death of Rivault (RIH’-voh).
With good behavior and other factors in his favor, Fontenot is being released from the custody of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections almost three months shy of the full 13 months.
