The state of higher education in Louisiana was discussed at UL Lafayette Thursday morning.

Dr. Joseph Rallo, the Commisioner of Higher Education for the Louisiana Board of Regents was the speaker. Dr. Rallo exchanged information with Institutional Leadership, area leaders, superintendents, K-12 leaders, legislators as well as business.

Rallo says higher education can address the needs around local communities and in the workforce. He also expressed his vision and optimism for the future.

“About a week ago they had the revenue estimating committee,” said Dr. Rallo. “Which talks about funding and cuts through the end of this fiscal year and were the only agency that was held harmless, so I think that’s positive because legislators are beginning to recognize what we are facing.”

Rallo says the committee will release new numbers on February 27th.
