BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY) – A teenager is recovering with moderate injuries and another man is in jail for allegedly driving drunk after a “near head-on collision” Saturday afternoon, according to the Broussard Police Department.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of LA Highway 182 near LA Highway 86.

Police Chief Brannon Decou said Henri Lasalle, 64, of New Iberia, was heading east in a minivan and, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line and hit a sports car.

The driver of the sports car, a 17-year-old male, became trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by first responders.

He was taken to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance to be treated for moderate injuries.

A witness told police Lasalle’s van had crossed the center line several times before the crash.

Lasalle was arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for driving while intoxicated, improper lane usage and no insurance.

Decou said Lasalle’s breathalyzer results were .064%. Additional toxicology results are pending at this time, according to the police chief.

Jail records show that Lassalle has a court date scheduled for February 16, 2016.
