CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) – A suspect is in custody after an overnight murder in Crowley. Police said Daniel Tezeno, Jr., 24, of Crowley was shot and killed around 2 a.m. Thursday at the corner of Jacobs Avenue and Seventh Street.
Police said the suspect, Darius Thomas, 24, of Crowley, is now in police custody. Chief K.P. Gibson said Tezeno was giving Thomas a ride when Thomas shot him in the torso.
Family members have confirmed Tezeno and Thomas were first cousins. Gibson said it seems the motive was robbery. Troy Goffney, one of the victim’s family friends, said he’s tired of seeing of so many young lives lost in the community over various crimes.
“He was one of those kids that you look at and you have hope for but just like a lot of the other senseless murders here this was good that was taken away from us too soon,” Goffney said.
The fatal shooting is still under investigation. Thomas has been charged with first degree murder.
