ATLANTA, Ga. (WIAT) – Similar to Alabama, the quarterback situation for LSU is still unclear going into preseason practice. Unlike the Tide, the Tigers had four quarterbacks share snaps during spring and that was a hot topic for second year coach Ed Orgeron.

“We would’ve liked to have a starting quarterback at the end of spring, it didn’t work that way.”

Spring practice didn’t provide many answers for LSU when it come to a starting signal callers.

“No one has earned the starting quarterback position at LSU. There’s been some inconsistencies, there’s been some great days. Now you add Joe Burrow to the mix. So we’re going to have split practices, in the morning for the newcomers and another for the veterans,” said Coach Orgeron.

Tiger players had positive reviews about Ohio State grad transfer Joe Burrow.

“He’s really driven the competition this summer, he’s the hot name on everyone’s mind. So there really hasn’t been a time this summer than I didn’t see a quarterback throwing in their off time. He really brings competition,” said tight end Foster Moreau.

And it wouldn’t be SEC Media Days without a question on how to beat Alabama. Coach O knows it needs to be on the top of his to-do list.

“Close is not good enough. We understand, I understand, that being the head coach at LSU you have to beat Alabama. That’s the bench mark,” said Orgeron.

On top of trying to beat Alabama for the first time in 7 years, LSU opens with Miami and get Georgia this season. Tigers will have to be extra special to be in the SEC championship conversation.
