LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- Domestic violence will indirectly effect a number of people when it comes to money. Nicole Lopez, development coordinator for local domestic abuse shelter Faith House, explains what it costs to care for a domestic abuse victim on a daily basis.
“It costs $75 per day, per person to provide at Faith house,” said Lopez.
Local attorney Jonathan Jarett handles a number of domestic violence abuse cases. He says that the amount of money that is spent on domestic abuse cases continues or soar.
A study conducted in 2003, said the estimated amount the U.S. spends on domestic violence each year is $8.3 billion. The question is, why?
“It’s not free for us to provide them (prevention resources and services to victims),” Lopez said.
