Students at St. John Baptist church in Jeanerette performed a mock talk show titled, “Whats going on?”.  Each guest of the show was an iconic member in the African American culture.   They dressed up as Beyonce, Magic Johnson, and Oprah.

Bria Burrell, a student at UL, was the host of the show.  She questioned the success of each member.

Church members cheered as mock Oprah said, “It was hard, but it was worth it.”

Burrell wanted viewers to knows, “No matter what, you can accomplish whatever your dreams are, and that your race should not hold you back.”

A church member, Twana Stokes added, “Black History is now, its time to focus on our future.   All these shootings going on, we need to focus on our goals and dreams.”

Pastor David Jones hopes the Black History Program reminds viewers the sky is the limit.  Jones said, “There’s no limit on life when you trust God. God has a plan for all of us.”

Black History month ends on Wednesday but Jones believes the celebration should continue.  He suggests, “in celebrating our ethnicity year round, and celebrate our culture, where god has brought us from, and things god will do.”
