(2/20/19) A young father gunned down in broad day light.
A barrage of bullets flew through the backyard of a Winnsboro home Wednesday afternoon.
The house is located across the street from Shaw’s Corner Store on Wood and Washington streets.
The victim was identified by family members as 27-year-old Quintez Credit.

“It’s just a situation—you got a 27-year-old man that’s not here now because of a situation that’s unexplainable,” said Sheriff Kevin Cobb of Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to a witness, the suspect drove up to the Winnsboro home and flashed a gun at Credit before chasing him on foot,

Credit ran for his life but slipped and fell in the back yard, and that’s when the suspect stood over the victim and shot him several times before fleeing on foot.

Police shut down several streets in the neighborhood as they searched for the suspect, but with the help of the community, they quickly apprehended him.

“The community came together, they calm down and they got to helping us. They helped us help them in a way and it was very, very important,” said Cobb “and it helped us do this in a rather timely manner.”

21-year-old Charles F. Kennell III of New Orleans is facing several charges including second degree murder.

Kennell ran to a home around the block at the corner of Willow and Florida streets, where he was eventually taken into custody.

Kennell has a lengthy and violent criminal history dating back to 2015.

It is unclear what the motive is at this time, but a family member of the victim says the two men had an altercation a few months ago.

Sheriff Cobb said more arrests may be made and the case is still under investigation.
