A mother and her boyfriend have been arrested in St. Martin Parish following an investigation involving the alleged abuse of a 1-year-old boy. 

43-year-old Tony Domingue of St. Martinville has been charged with 1 count hate crimes, 1 count second degree cruelty to juveniles and 1 count aggravated second degree battery, all of which are felonies. 

25-year-old Jorretta Carrere of New Iberia faces charges of 1 count principal to hate crimes, 1 count principal to second degree cruelty to juveniles and 1 count principal to aggravated second degree battery, all felonies. 

Investigators received a report Monday of an alleged child abuse case involving the 1-year-old from the New Iberia Police Department.

A further investigation revealed that the alleged abuse took place in St. Martin Parish where the 1-year-old allegedly sustained severe injuries by his mother’s boyfriend. 

The child is still in the hospital, according to detectives. 

Following their arrests,  both were booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charges with no bond.
