ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY)- Abbeville police officers said they have arrested members of a gang operating here in Acadiana.

On Wednesday night, a special street crimes unit created by the police department stopped a vehicle driven by a suspect identified as Travis Cooper, a “known member of the Gremlins Gang”, police said.

Police identified Cody Guidry as a passenger also a known member of the Gremlins gang, the department said.

Both suspects were wanted in connection with a fight that occurred in Abbeville, police said.

During the traffic stop, illegal narcotics was located in the vehicle. Cooper was arrested for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Last night, Abbeville officers also arrested a man who tried to flee from a vehicle during a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as Kiangelo Levene was arrested a short distance later.

During the course of this specialized patrol, Gene Williams III arrived at Abbeville Police Department to turn himself in for a warrant related to the local fight and was taken into custody.

While being processed at the Vermilion Parish Jail, authorities said Williams battered an officer before being restrained.

The Gremlins gang is suspected of engaging in numerous narcotics and violent crimes including homicide, intimidation of witnesses, and widespread distribution of narcotics, investigators said.
