Rayne man shot and killed girlfriend, police say

UPDATE: 03/09/22 8:35 p.m. A Rayne man is in jail on charges he shot and killed his girlfriend at a home on Benoit Street.

According to Police Chief Carroll Stelly, Trenden Mylar McGuire, 23 is accused of the second-degree-murder of his girlfriend, Alessia Joy Malone, 20.

Police say the shooting happened just after 11 a.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, he said, officers located the victim with a gunshot wound to the head.

She was transported to the hospital where she died, Stelly said.

McGuire is in jail with no bond.

RAYNE, La. (KLFY) — Investigators with the Rayne Police Department are working to learn more about a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday morning.

Police said around 11:40 a.m. officers were sent to a call for service in the 200 block of Benoit Street.

On arrival, police say, a white female, age 20, was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

She was transported to an area hospital where she later died, police said.

Her name is being withheld until next-of-kin can be notified.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional details will be released at later time.
