“Allegedly, he (McCauley) was giving the drug dealer (Johnson), information about where we (the Sheriff’s Office) were going, and what we were doing, and that is a no-no,” said Sheriff Guidroz.
He says this information was revealed to him over 2 weeks ago.
“After we booked him (Johnson), he told us, one of my detectives (McCauley), was on the tape for $500 a month. And well, we initiated an internal affairs investigation, substantiated the claims,” said the Sheriff.
Sheriff Guidroz says investigators conducted 2 search warrants.
One on McCauley’s wife’s phone, and another on Johnson’s phone, confirming McCauley was spreading the classified information about the Sheriff’s Department.

Guidroz also states when the investigators searched the phones, it also revealed atttempts by McCauley to purchase marijuana from Johnson for his wife.
When the Sheriff first found out about this ordeal, McCauley was put on administrative unpaid leave.
“When we got enough information to substantiate the firing, then I fired him,” said Guidroz.
McCauley was a detective in the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit.
Which is not in the Narcotics Divison, but the Sheriff says he had access to all that information and more.

He says McCauley was utimately putting the public at risk.
“This action by William Davis McCauly Jr. threatened the lives of not only the civilans in the neighboring communities in the neighborhood he lived, but also police officers. And that’s not right, that’s got to stop,” said Guidroz.
Sheriff states that behavior by one of his own will not be tolerated in his Department
“When I hire somebody, I sit them right across the desk from me and tell them, ‘If you break the law, if you bring contraband into our jail, if you bring drugs, or if you’re involved in any other illegal activity drugs or otherwise, I’m going to fire you, and I’m going to put you on the 6 o’ clock news'”, said Sheriff Guidroz.
Johnson is out on bond.
The Sheriff says the Department did not arerst McCauley because there wasn’t enough physical evidence to do so.
Essentially, there was no video of McCauley actually exchanging money with Johnson for the drugs.
