David Leblanc, the owner of Greenwood Shoes, was arrested and charged with arson for the Februarys fire at his store.
KLFY News 10 interviewed Leblanc just eight days ago where he spoke about the anticipated resurgence of Greenwood.
“I didn’t realize how much of an impact Greenwood shoes had on the general public itself but, the outpouring, the support from our customers has been overwhelming,” Leblanc said eight days ago.
That sympathy may have been in vain as the investigation revealed arson.
Fire officials say they were suspicious when they first examined the scene.
“As we were able to collect more information from the scene and everything else that we do in the investigation, we determined without a doubt it was intentionally set,” Alton Trahan with the Lafayette Fire Department said today.
“There’s a lot of shoe stores. you can go anywhere in Lafayette but nobody does what we do,” Leblanc explained a week ago
That appears to be true in more ways than one.
About a week ago, Leblanc told News 10 how he was able to keep a positive attitude following the fire at his business.
“Faith, family, friends, and customers. some of my customers are my friends,” he said.
Leblanc now faces a charge of arson with intent to defraud.
