Millard Hebert, of Youngsville, has been charged with second degree murder in connection to the death of 47-year-old Bonnie Ruphard. Her body was found in the 400 block of Lanjunie Road on Dec. 6. 2008.
Detective followed several investigative leads but her killer’s suspect was never identified.

Last week, on March 8, the Acadiana Crime Lab was able to match DNA found on Ruphard’s body to Hebert, who was already in the Lafayette Parish Jail on separate drug charges.
After he was interviewed by detectives, Hebert was charged with second degree murder, Lafayette Police Chief Toby Aguillard said during today’s press conference.
A jogger found Ruphard’s body in a wooded area near Acadiana Park, according to The Daily Advertiser.
Early in the investigation, Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton told reporters that Ruphard was from Illinois and had been traveling around the country with a group of people doing contract work.
