Legendary Meteorologist Dick Faurot has announced his retirement.
For 18 years Faurot was Chief Meteorologist at KLFY, where he became the weather authority for Acadiana.
Faurot often stood alone in accurately forecasting some of the worst weather Acadiana has ever seen.
His precise track of storms, hurricanes, and other major weather events allowed residents to properly prepare and undoubtedly saved lives.
Generations of people grew up listening to Dick Faurot to find out if they had school the next day, and to learn if they had accurately predicted the days weather in his “Color the Weather,” segment.
In 1993, Faurot left KLFY and moved to Oklahoma to be closer to family. While there, he joined station KOTV where he is the current Meteorologist.
Faurot said on his Facebook page Tuesday, “After 41+ fun years, I’ve decided to retire at the end of June 2017. I’m still in good health and am looking forward to what’s next. Stay tuned for more as the date gets closer.”
