UPDATE:   An athletic trainer at Opelousas High School confessed to police Monday that she had sex with a 17-year-old female student, according to Opelousas Police Chief Donald Thompson.

28-year-old Loralyn Huval told police that the sexual encounter happened at a local motel following homecoming festivities, Thompson said.  

Huval was arrested Monday and booked into the St. Landry Parish jail on charges of prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student, which is a felony, Thompson said. 

Thompson said Huval will appear before a judge later in the week. 

ORIGINAL: A female teacher trainer at Opelousas High School has been arrested following allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student.

Opelousas Police say they learned of the allegations Monday, removed the teacher immediately from the classroom and launched an investigation.

The teacher later resigned.

She has been identified as 28-year-old Loralyn Huval of Crowley.  

With the case under investigation, Police Chief Donald Thompson said they could not release any further details.

Following questioning, Thompson said Huval was placed under arrest. 

“The teacher has been arrested and charged with prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student, which is a felony,” Thompson said.

An investigation is on-going.
