PARKS, La. (KLFY) – A St. Martinville man is in jail for drug possession charges after he fled from deputies during a traffic stop.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics agents attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Nursery Highway in Parks Wednesday evening after witnessing suspected drug activity in the area.

That’s when the suspect fled the scene. He was arrested a short time later in a cane field in Parks.

According to Major Ginny Higgins, Brandon Nelson, 35, of St. Martinville, was found to be in possession of Meth and Marijuana.

He was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Fight From An Officer
  • Obstruction of Justice
  • Possession of Schedule II CDS (Methamphetamine)
  • Possession of Schedule I CDS (Marijuana)
  • Ignoring Stop Sign
  • General Speed Law
