The suspect accused of pointing an AR-15 at a Patterson Police Officer has been arrested.
Marcus White could now be facing charges of attempted first-degree murder of an officer, possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon and several traffic violations.
White crashed his car into a fence this morning trying to avoid a traffic stop. After the accident White ran into a church parking lot were he pointed an AR-15 at an officer.
“The officer gave the command for him to drop the weapon, he refused to do so, the officer fired,” says Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle.
When the officer got closer to White he jumped up and tried to run again.
“He had the bad luck to run past two retired police officer‘s who very bravely made pursuit,” says LaSalle.
No one was fatally injured during the alteration.
LaSalle says, “At the time this was occurring church was just convening so there were quite a few people there. One round went into the side of the church, another one was located in the trailer to the right of the church and of course they were lucky enough no one was injured.”
LaSalle says a crisis was avoided today.
“God was with us. The officer was extremely professional. He didn’t fire anymore once he went down, and they immediately provided medical attention. I have to commend all of the people involved especially the officer. He did the right thing but he still did the humane thing,” says LaSalle.
White is in stable condition and has been transferred to the St. Mary Parish correctional facility.
