LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – A Univeristy of Louisiana at Lafayette international student was killed in a traffic crash over the weekend.
Lafayette Police spokesperson Karl Ratcliff identified the victim as 24-year-old Rustam Nizamutdinov.
Charlie Bier, a communications specialist for UL, said Nizamutdinov was an undergraduate student from Uzbekistan and working as a research assistant for the university’s department of petroleum engineering.
Police say Nizamutdinov was walking in the 3800 block of Johnston Street when he was hit by a vehicle around 1:00 Sunday morning.
He was pronounced dead the scene. Investigators ruled impairment was not a factor in the crash.
