Victim identified in Lafayette homicide

The victim killed in a homicide in Lafayette on Tuesday morning has been identified as Damien Anthony Champ of Lafayette.

As officers arrived on Bossier Street, the man was unresponsive, and later pronounced dead at the scene. Perkin Aguillard lives along Bossier Street and he says that he didn’t hear a sound until he was awaken by his neighbor.  “That’s when I has seen all the loss right there. But I didn’t hear anything, I didn’t see anything all I saw was the body lying down in the street.”

Aguillard says he’s often awaken by gunshots, and can even describe the type of gun that was used. But last night, he heard nothing which leads him to believe one thing. “The only thing I can say, if that’s a gunshot, somebody came there and drop the body. That’s all I can figure.”


The investigation is still is its beginning stages and police are asking anyone with information to please come forward or call 232-tips, where you have the option to remain anonymous.

Lafayette Police are investigating what they are calling a homicide after a man was found dead on Bossier Street Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Bossier Street just after 1 am and when they arrived found an unidentified man lying in the street with a head injury.  Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives indicated the victim, a 21 year old male, died from a single gunshot wound.
