A new Compressed Natural Gas, (CNG), Fleet Facility is coming to Waste Management in Lafayette.
It will provide cleaner air and quieter streets. Waste Management’s new CNG Fleet Facility is part of the larger goal of converting 80% of its fleet to alternative fueled vehicles by the year 2020.
With the latest fleet conversion in Lafayette, Waste Management has converted more than 6,600 service vehicles to alternative fuels. It operates the largest fleet of the waste industry in North America. The company says the new trucks cut smog-producing nitrogen oxide emissions in half compared to the cleanest diesel trucks. Community Relations of Waste Management Gulf Coast, Tricia Farace, says it’s all about creating an environmentally friendly home.
“This is a part of our sustainability goal. This is a sustainability initiative for Waste Management. We take great pride in being sustainable. Again, it reduces less greenhouse gas emissions, it’s quieter on the streets. So, it just provides a cleaner and greener, safer way of living here in WM Acadiana.”
Ultimately, this conversion reduces diesel usage by 8,000 gallons per year. The ribbon cutting ceremony is taking place Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 111 Wilfred Road in Lafayette from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
