ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Vermilion Parish sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Youngsville man in connection with two murders that happened in 2014.

Dereck Viator, 35, is accused of murdering Cody Fell, 34, of Youngsville, and Abigail Clark, 29, of Breaux Bridge.

The bodies of Fell and Clark were found inside a burnt SUV on Claude Road near Maurice, La. on April 16, 2014.

Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon said in a news release that deputies arrested Viator yesterday on two counts of first-degree murder. He is currently being held in the parish jail without bond.

According to Sheriff Couvillon, Dereck Viator was living near Youngsville at the time of the murders but has been incarcerated in the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center since July 2014 on non-related charges.

“This has been a very active investigation since the onset as detectives continue to develop information and gather evidence in an effort to seek justice for the victims and their families,” Couvillon added.

The sheriff expects to make additional arrests and will release more information about the case as the investigation progresses.
