Armed robbery at St. Landry Bank in Eunice

Eunice Police surrounded St. Landry Bank in Eunice after an armed robbery on Thursday morning.

Chief Randy Fontenot says the suspect,Benjamin Guillory (21), is now in custody. “He went into the bank with a small caliber handgun.”

Fontenot says Guillory held a teller at gunpoint, demanded an undisclosed amount of cash, and fired one shot.”On his way out of the bank, he fired one shot into the ceiling. Nobody was injured. He apparently threw the gun as he was running from the bank which was later recovered.”

Fontenot say witnesses showed officers Guillory’s direction when he ran from the scene. Shortly after, he was caught two blocks away from the bank.

Diana Balfour owns Aguillard’s cleaner located right next to the bank. She says police found the gun behind her business. “It’s scary. I know everybody at that bank and my neighbor across the street works there. It’s scary, he could have run in there too.”

Chief Fontenot says all of the money was recovered and he believes Guillory acted alone. “None of the witnesses saw any other people around. There was no vehicle involved that we know of. He was just on foot.”
