Lafayette teen killed in St. Martin Parish crash

A single vehicle crash on LA 31 at Cypress Island Extension Road in St. Martin Parish has claimed the life of 18 year old Juliana Gerami of Lafayette, La.

Police say the crash happened at 10:22 Sunday morning.

An initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 18 year old Hunter Mansour of Alexandria was driving northbound on LA 31 approaching the intersection of Cypress Island Extension Road.

In an attempt to avoid striking another northbound vehicle in the rear on LA 31, police say Mansour veered to the right and in doing so,  ran off of the right side of the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck a chain link fence.

Mansour was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, however his front seat passenger, Juliana Gerami, who was also wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries.

The St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Gerami dead on scene.

A rear seat passenger, 18 year old Samantha Rivero of Lafayette, was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured

Police say impairment is not a factor in the crash after Mansour submitted to a chemical test and was found not impaired.

Mansour was cited for Careless Operation.
