Lafayette, LA – On March 4, 2015, at approximately 10:00 am, Lafayette Police responded to the 300 block of Madison Street regarding a stabbing.  When officers arrived the victim was inside of his vehicle bleeding from stab wounds to the chest and legs.  The victim, a 30 year old male of Lafayette, told officers he was driving into a driveway in the 300 block of Madison Street, when the suspect parked his vehicle behind him.  The suspect allegedly exited the vehicle with a knife in his hand and attacked the victim inside of his car.  The suspect stabbed the victim three times before fleeing the scene in a white Cadillac.  The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for his injuries.

On March 6, 2015, Lafayette Police developed information identifying the suspect as Hamp Michael Penson (57) of Lafayette.  Penson was located and transported to the Lafayette Police Department for questioning.  Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department charged Penson with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.  In addition to the charge involving the stabbing, Penson was charged with Domestic Abuse Battery, Second Degree Batter and False Imprisonment for a domestic disturbance that occurred on March 2, 2015, with his girlfriend.  The girlfriend received moderate injuries.  The victim from the stabbing has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.  The motive behind the stabbing remains under investigation.
