UPDATE: Shreveport Police tell KTAL NBC 6’s Delano Henry they are back on the scene of the Tuesday’s fatal shooting with a 3-D scanner. There’s no word what police are using the scanners to look for. 

A still unidentified Shreveport Police Officer and killed Anthony Dewayne Childs on Tuesday. 

Police say Childs ran when the officer attempted to stop him.

Police say at some point the two began to shoot at each other.  Childs was hit and died on the scene.

UPDATE: A man shot and killed following a confrontation with Shreveport police has been named by the Caddo Parish Coroner’s office.

Anthony Dewayne Childs, 31, of Shreveport, was shot and killed in the incident that occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the 5800 Block of Kennedy Drive, in west-central Shreveport.

Childs was taken to Ochsner LSU Health where he will be autopsied later today. 

ORIGINAL: A suspect is dead after a shooting involving a Shreveport Police Officer.

It happened Tuesday afternoon on Hollywood Ave and Kennedy Drive.  

They say a man was walking in the 5900 block of Kennedy Drive, when a Shreveport Police officer attempted to stop him.  The man ran from the officer who chased him by foot. 

At some point the two began to shoot at each other.  The suspect was hit and died on the scene.

The officer was not injured.
