Lafayette, LA – On February 17, 2015, at approximately 6:15 pm, Lafayette Police responded to a major crash at the intersection of Moss Street and Halifax Drive. According to investigators, a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling northbound on Moss Street when it collided with a 2013 Ford Escape, which was stopped in the left turn lane.
The Ford Escape was pushed into the southbound lane, colliding with a 2015 Honda Element. The Ford Escape immediately engulfed in flames, killing the driver of the vehicle. The drivers of the Chevrolet and Honda were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The driver of the Ford Escape has been identified as Carol S. Richard (66) of Lafayette. The driver of the Camaro, Bryce M. Chapman (23) of Lafayette, has been charged with OWI 2nd Offense, Careless Operation, 1st Degree Negligent Injury, Vehicular Negligent Injury (2 Counts), and Vehicular Homicide. The crash remains under investigation.
