In wake of owner’s death, Parish Ink opens today

Less than a week after its co-owner Jillian Johnson was killed, Parish Ink has reopened its doors.

The company announced its decision to reopen on Facebook this afternoon.

“The kindness and loving support of everyone has made it possible for us to open our doors and reach back out to our community,” the company said. “Parish Ink is open today at both Lafayette locations, Downtown and River Ranch, from 10-6. We appreciate your patience with web orders and our inventory as we have been overwhelmed with community outreach. We are so grateful and ready to share more of the wonderful items designed by Jillian Johnson. ‪#lafayettestrong‬ ‪#buyleauxcal”

Johnson, 33, and Mayci Breaux, 21, were killed Thursday night in a shooting inside the Grand 16 Theatre on Johnston Street. The gunman, John Russel Houser committed suicide as authorities entered the theater.

Both of the victims’ funerals were Monday.

Business was steady inside Parish Ink’s downtown location Wednesday, its staff said.

“We opened at 10 a.m. this morning. We are trying to catch up on web orders now,” employee Brooke Purtle said Wednesday afternoon. “We are taking it one step at a time and getting a lot of love.”

Johnson’s other company, Red Arrow Workshop, which she co-owned with her husband, Jason Brown, will reopen its River Ranch location Thursday. Its New Orleans shop will remain closed until further notice.
