JENNINGS, La. (AP) – A Jennings man has been sentenced to six years in prison for helping cover up the murder of a local man whose body was dumped on the side of the road on New Year’s Eve in 2013.

The American Press reports 23-year-old Jules Patrick Batiste Jr. was sentenced Monday with credit for time served after he pleaded no contest to obstruction of justice and manslaughter in June.

Batiste and 22-year-old Keagan Drew Reon, of Jennings, are accused of killing Ruston “Rusty” Reed at Batiste’s home and covering up the slaying by dumping the body on Racca Road, burning evidence and throwing the murder weapon off a bridge.

Reon, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter and obstruction of justice in June, is awaiting sentencing on Sept. 28.(Copyright 2015 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
