Original story:
An 18-year-old man who recently graduated from Loreauville High School was killed in a crash that happened Sunday morning on US 90 near LA 14 in Iberia Parish.
According to Louisiana State Police, Jordan Prince of Loreauville, died on the scene of the crash around 2:45 a.m on May 24. An initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 31 year old King Ellis of Jeanerette, was operating a 2006 Dodge Durango westbound in the eastbound lanes of US 90, and Jordan Prince was operating a 1995 Dodge Ram pick-up eastbound on US 90 in the inside lane. Police said as the two vehicles approached each other, Prince applied his brakes in an effort to avoid the impending crash, however the two vehicles collided in the inside lane, killing Prince. Police say Ellis suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance.
Additionally, flying vehicle parts struck a passing vehicle causing minor damage. Due to the nature of the crash, Troopers are still investigating seat belt usage on both drivers, however impairment for Ellis is believed to be a factor in the crash and routine toxicology samples were taken from both Prince and Ellis and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Police say the crash remains under investigation and charges are forthcoming.
